A recap of our condition-based maintenance webinar

On November 2, 2017, we hosted an expert-led webinar on the topic of condition-based maintenance. The event was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who joined us. Here is a rundown of some of the highlights and key points.

The webinar, hosted by SKF’s Anders Welin, explained how conventional maintenance approaches are unsustainable. It highlighted the need to adopt time- and cost-effective methods. For this reason, the session focused on condition-based maintenance and its benefits in great depth. If you haven’t done so already, you can download a free expert paper on the topic as well as a recorded version of the webinar.

The importance of understanding machine health

During the webinar, the host addressed key areas of a condition-based maintenance strategy. Attendees learnt about how sensors in condition monitoring equipment collect data and provide operators with a clear picture of machine health. Utilizing this information enables maintenance to be planned only when it is required—vital for avoiding unexpected downtime.

But the analysis went much deeper than this. The session examined the value of implementing condition-based maintenance for operators to reduce costs and avoid unplanned maintenance, while increasing vessel reliability. Ultimately, the webinar explained how shipping companies can make their maintenance budget go further. In addition, it highlighted the key requirements for implementing an effective predictive maintenance plan.

A successful event. What next?

In conclusion,  we are pleased that so many people were able to take part. We hope you now have everything you need to optimize your maintenance processes to achieve higher vessel reliability and avoid unexpected downtime. What would you find a useful topic for a future webinar?

Here are some ideas. Which one is your favorite?

  • Identifying and resolving electric motor issues.
  • Increasing vessel safety and reliability with the right lubrication.
  • Reducing dry docking periods by using hydraulic bolts.
  • The impact of the MARPOL air pollution regulations coming into effect in 2020 and what ship owners need to consider
