Nor-Shipping 2019 event preview

One of the most important weeks in 2019’s maritime event calendar is almost upon us. On June 4–7, 2019, Nor-Shipping will return to Norway, with 900 exhibitors from 48 countries. If you’re visiting the event, or simply interested in what’s happening in the industry, this article gives you a sneak peek at some of the highlights.

Ever since the Viking Age over 1,000 years ago, Scandinavia has had a huge influence on maritime history. Norwegian culture in particular has been shaped by the region’s rich seafaring heritage. It is this background that makes Norway the perfect setting for a maritime trade fair. Every two years, key industry players from around the world travel to Lillestrøm near the Norwegian capital of Oslo to visit Nor-Shipping. Here are some of the reasons why.

Promoting a sustainable future

As an official partner for the Sustainable Ocean Business Action Platform, organized by the United Nations (UN), Nor-Shipping endorses and promotes the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, the Nor-Shipping Principles support diversity and gender equality, preservation of life below water, industry collaboration, and action against climate change.

The exhibition has a special focus on organizations that promote decarbonization solutions and sustainable technology. And with new environmental regulations on the horizon, these technologies are in high demand right now. But Nor-Shipping also practices what it preaches, as it aims to set new benchmarks in sustainable events management. It is especially fitting, then, that Oslo is the 2019 European Green Capital.

A platform for collaboration and innovation

Nor-Shipping aims to ensure the ongoing success of the maritime industry. To this end, it has devoted an entire hall to innovative shipping startups: the Blue Economy Hall. With a startup lounge, think tanks, and an award for young entrepreneurs, the event is recognizing the importance of new business models and methods of collaboration.

Of course, the event will also feature more prominent names. The Ocean Leadership Conference brings together some of the leading figures in shipping, ocean industries, politics, and finance. These speakers and contributors will explore the impact of new trends, evaluate new opportunities, and search for sustainable solutions.

SKF Marine at Nor-Shipping 2019

In line with Nor-Shipping’s focus on green technology, SKF Marine will be appearing at the event with its own sustainable solutions. One highlight will be the new Simplex Double Pipe Airspace seal, which eliminates the need for expensive bio oils while ensuring compliance with VGP 13 regulations. In addition, experts will be on hand to discuss condition monitoring solutions, how to improve Rotating Equipment Performance (REP), and how to fulfill stringent environmental requirements with Simplex BlueRun and more. Visit booth E03–07 in Hall E to see the products for yourself.
